  • Happy Trails

This November, I registered for the Grizzly Ultramarathon – a 5o-km trail race in Canmore, Alta. Driven by my passion for the mountains and my partner’s positive race experiences, I signed up. It’s an ambitious choice for someone who’s done lots of road running but has spent little time on the trails (other than a 15-km “fun” run that resulted in me twisting my ankle twice). It will be a fun fall race to accompany the Calgary Marathon in May. I’ll be documenting my adventure to the start lines here.

This space, however, will also be a place for me to document my time in and around the mountains, be it skiing, running or more chill activities. From discussing my favourite ski films, figuring out training, debriefing races or powder day thoughts, I’ll be here practicing my writing and sharing my photography along the way. I’m excited to get started.

  • Trails and Traverses: Discover Canmore’s Triple Crown Challenge

This past February, I pulled together a piece on trail running for Travel Alberta. I interviewed Bow Valley business owners and trail runners to discuss local trail culture and a heart-pounding route through Canmore, Alta. Known as the Triple Crown Challenge, the 23-km route covers Ha Ling Peak, Mount Lady MacDonald and East End of Rundle (for a total of 2,450m of vertical elevation gain). Upon completing the three mountain peaks, hikers and runners earn not only automatic bragging rights but also a free pint of beer and a commemorative glass at the Georgetown Inn. Not bad for a single-day or a summer season adventure! Read more on Travel Alberta’s website.
